52,000+ Trademarks Canceled or Reopened by USPTO

USPTO Cancels 52,000+ Trademarks Over Fraud

In early 2025, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) announced a major action affecting more than 52,000 trademark registrations. These registrations, filed between 2016 and 2023, are being cancelled or reopened for review because the USPTO discovered serious problems with how the filings were submitted.

What Went Wrong?

A company based in China, Shenzhen Seller Growth Network Tech. Co., Ltd., was found to have submitted trademark filings using fake signatures and false information. This included forging the names of applicants or attorneys on official documents.

This wasn’t just a few isolated mistakes — it was a widespread pattern affecting thousands of filings.

Who Is Impacted?

If your trademark application or registration was handled by this company or their affiliates, it might now be under review or cancelled. The USPTO gave trademark owners a chance to respond and prove their filings were legitimate, but in most cases, there wasn’t enough proof.

Even if owners were unaware of the misconduct, the USPTO holds the submitting party responsible. Forgery or improper signatures make the filings invalid and cannot be fixed after the fact.

What Happens Next?

  • If your trademark is already registered and involved, the USPTO may cancel your registration.
  • If your application was still pending, it may be reopened for a new review.
  • The USPTO has uploaded notices to affected trademark files to keep owners informed.

What Should You Do?

  • Check your trademark status carefully.
  • If you’re unsure whether your trademark is affected, or you used third-party filing services, this is the time to verify your registration’s standing.
  • If you need to file a new application due to cancellation or want help making sure your filings are properly done, TradeMark Express can help you.

Why This Matters

This large-scale cancellation is a strong reminder: using trusted, experienced trademark filing services is critical. The USPTO is cracking down on fraudulent filings, and any trademark submitted with false or forged information risks being removed from the register.
